Did you know that Internal Family Systems (IFS) is now used around the world by millions of people? IFS is the most popular structure for doing parts work and inner child healing. It's one of the most powerful modalities for psychological, emotional, and spiritual healing that I have found, consistently seeing shifts not only in my own life, but also in my clients'.
The parts work coach, practitioner, or therapist supports you to learn the process and gain more Self energy so that you can do this work anytime with any issue all by yourself! That is always my goal - to give my clients more skills, choice, and sovereignty around their healing and life.
I find that the energy work and nervous styem healing of acupuncture pairs very well with parts work. You can use it for physical symptoms, emotional and mental symptoms, as well as for inner conflict and self-sabotaging behaviors.
Some examples include:
Physical: headaches, aches and pains, fatigue, allergies
Emotional: anxieties, sadness, anger, guilt
Mental: rumination, insomnia from overthinking, negative thoughts
Inner conflict: you want to get a new job for the past 2 years, but still can't seem to make the shift
Self-sabotage:
Relational patterns
Pushing away intimacy right when a relationship starts feeling safe or close
Picking unavailable or inconsistent partners repeatedly
People-pleasing or over-accommodating to the point of losing yourself
Testing partners (pushing buttons, creating conflict) to see if they'll leave
Difficulty receiving love, compliments, or support without deflecting
Work & achievement
Procrastinating on meaningful projects, especially ones tied to real desire or purpose
Chronic over-preparing or perfectionism that delays finishing or launching anything
Undercharging, undervaluing your work, or sabotaging financial success right as it starts to grow
Taking on too much and burning out, then withdrawing completely
Body & health
Disordered eating patterns (restriction, bingeing) tied to control or numbing
Ignoring or overriding physical pain, fatigue, or illness signals
Substance use, overworking, or overexercising as a way to avoid feeling
Chronic tension, bracing, or armoring that shows up as physical pain with no clear cause
Emotional patterns
Numbing out (screens, food, busyness) right when something vulnerable surfaces
Sudden anger or shutdown in response to minor triggers
Self-criticism or harsh inner dialogue that spikes right before growth or success
Dissociating or "leaving the body" during stress or conflict
Self-worth & identity
Staying small or invisible to avoid envy, conflict, or standing out
Chronic self-abandonment — deprioritizing your own needs automatically
Repeating the same "stuck" story about who you are, even when evidence contradicts it
Sabotaging right at the edge of a breakthrough or a new level of visibility
